There’s new technology being introduced to agriculture constantly and this is no different. Grv Technologies in Utah has just created Olympus Tower farms, which is the world’s largest vertical farming system. The company’s working with Bateman and Mosida Farms, a large dairy in Elberta, Utah to grow feed for their cows. Grv said that this is a more efficient way to grow crops.
Each one of the towers can produce 6,000 lbs of food every day after finishing a cycle. To put that in perspective, depending on what’s being grown, that’s the equivalent of planting 35 – 50 acres of a crop in less than a 900 square foot space. Once a seed is placed into a tray, it moves up to the top of the tower and starts to make it’s way back down to the bottom where it’ll be harvested.
Brad Bateman, one of the owners of Bateman and Mosida Farms said that the goal is to have one of these vertical farms in every grocery store so that they can grow fresh produce. Grv Technologies plans to release the robotic tower farm to the public once they obtain agreements with more farms.
