MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — COVID-19 numbers in Wisconsin continued to fall on Wednesday.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,402 confirmed cases on Wednesday, or 26% of the 9,251 total tests done. The state also reported 74 new deaths, the highest number in a week.
The seven-day average of new cases fell to 3,247, its lowest level since Oct. 19. The drop continued a nearly month-long trend of declining numbers. DHS secretary-designee Andrea Palm said Wednesday that not only have new case numbers been declining, so have emergency room visits with symptoms consistent with COVID-19. However, the seven-day average remains nearly four times higher than it was on Sept. 3.
Seven-day average test positivity was at 27.5%, while an average of 44 people have died every day for the past week.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 444,798 confirmed cases, nearly 2.3 million negative tests and 4,196 deaths. DHS considers 399,073 people to have recovered from COVID-19.
