GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU-WRN) — A former assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers has died at the age of 58.
Friends and family confirmed Monday that Kevin Greene, a former player and coach with multiple teams, died suddenly over the weekend.
Greene was drafted into the league in 1985 by the Los Angeles Rams and spent time with a handful of clubs including the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Francisco 49ers. He was named to numerous All-Pro teams and won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 1996.
After retiring he joined the Packers coaching staff in 2009 as an assistant working with linebackers. He stayed with the Packers through 2013 and helped the team win one Super Bowl. His coaching resume also includes time with the New York Jets.
He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016 alongside Brett Favre.
No cause of death was given.
