MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Half a million Wisconsin residents have now been confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus.
The state Department of Health Services on Friday reported 3,474 confirmed cases, or 32.8% of the total tests completed, and 40 deaths. The seven-day average continued its recent climb, rising to 2,715 cases. The seven-day average of test positivity fell to 29.8%. Deaths held steady at 36 per day over the past week.
Overall during the pandemic, there have been 502,012 total cases, nearly 2.4 million negative tests and 5,119 deaths. DHS lists 467,069 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
As of Friday morning, there were no patients staying at the alternate care facility. Four people received outpatient treatment there.
Overall hospitalizations decreased slightly on Friday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,054 COVID-19 patients, down 23 from Thursday but up 44 from a week earlier. Of those, 242 were in intensive care, two fewer than on Thursday but 15 more than a week earlier.
In the Northeast region, there were 102 COVID-19 patients, up seven in a day and two in a week. Of those, 28 were in ICUs, up six in a day and flat over a week. Fox Valley region hospitals reported 57 COVID-19 patients, an increase of two from Thursday and six from a week earlier. Seven of those were in ICUs, up two in a day and four in a week.
