WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A local brewery is branching out into a new beverage.
Wednesday morning Bull Falls Brewery announced they will be opening a new coffee shop in their building. The coffee shop, Five Star Coffee, is expected to open in mid-February following construction in the brewery’s taproom. Bull Falls co-owner Don Zamzow says they got the idea for a coffee shop in the taproom after holding some parking lot pallet sales.
“It’s basically open most days beginning at 4 o’clock [p.m.] into the evening. But the rest of the time it’s sitting here not being used. So we got the idea that maybe we could get more use out of our facility if we expanded the hours with different products.”
Those new products will now include rotating coffee roasts, light, medium, and dark, iced coffee, a range of lattes, and a selection of sweets and donuts. Even more, products will become available in the spring and summer according to Zamzow once other plans get finalized. But don’t expect Bull Falls coffee line to be like your traditional coffee shop as Zamzow explains brewery staples will be used in their roasts.
“We got to talking further with our coffee roaster and we have a unique opportunity to do some things that a typical coffee shop might not be able to do. That is to marry some ingredients that go into making beers such as malt or hops with coffee and come up with some unique drinks and unique flavors. And one thing led to the next and we said let’s go ahead and do it.”
The back portion of Bull Falls taproom is currently under construction to accommodate the new area. Zamzow says they are currently adding in a takeout and order window to allow for social distancing and COVID-19 regulations. The coffee shop is expected to open in the next 3 to 4 weeks. Coffee for the new shop will be provided by locally owned Redwood Street Roasters based in Edgar.
