STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A man convicted for multiple child pornography charges has reached the end of his prison sentence.
A release from the Stevens Point Police Department says Scott Szerlong is being released from prison on January 21st, 2021. Szerlong was convicted on 18 counts of possession of child pornography in 2017 in Portage County. He was also convicted on fraud and drug charges in 2017 as well.
Szerlong will live at 1504 Waters St. in Stevens Point and will be on strict supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He is being monitored by Sex Offender Agent Specialists and is subject to lifelong GPS monitoring. Szerlong is not allowed to have any unsupervised contact with minors, and must comply with standard sex offender rules including electronic monitoring and lifetime registry on the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.
Szerlong was initially arrested for a fraud and forgery incident in June of 2013. During the investigation into the incident, investigators found Szerlong to be in possession of child pornography. Police also note that Szerlong has a long criminal history in Wisconsin and other states.
Officers remind the public that information about the release of convicted sex offenders is not meant to alarm residents, but rather to inform them. Additionally, any sort of harassment, intimidation, or threatening actions against those who have completed their sentence will not be tolerated by authorities.
