San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is featured as the cover athlete for MLB The Show 21, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Monday.
Tatis, 22, is the youngest player chosen for the cover of the game since it debuted in 2006.
Tatis is shown demonstrating a bat flip on his cover shot, a gesture that was a signature moment during the postseason last year. Tatis’ two-run shot in the seventh inning capped a two-homer performance in the Padres’ 11-9 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of their National League wild-card series.
Tatis joins an All-Star roster of cover stars that includes Bryce Harper, Miguel Cabrera, Ken Griffey Jr., Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz, among others. Javier Baez was last year’s cover athlete for the game.
Tatis batted .277 with 17 homers and 45 RBIs in 59 games last season. He is batting .301 with 39 homers and 98 RBIs in 143 career games with the Padres.
MLB The Show 21 launches in April.
