Tom Super, the Senior Vice President of Communications with the National Chicken Council said that they’re projecting a record number of wings to be eaten during this Sunday’s big game. The council estimates there will be 1.42 billion wings consumed, which is a two percent increase from last year.
Super put that number in perspective. “1.42 billion chicken wings, if you lined them up end-to-end, they would circle the circumference three times,” he didn’t end things there, “If you laid them end-to-end, they would stretch from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa 19 times back-and-forth.”
He said that even with all of the COVID-19 concerns this past year, chicken production stayed pretty steady. There was a slight decrease, but not much.
Here are some of the results from a wing survey by the National Chicken Council:
- 53% of people prefer bone-in compared to boneless
- 52% eat wings with barbeque sauce
- 46% want ranch dressing with their wings
It looks like we’ll have to stock up on wings this weekend to support the chicken industry!
