RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — A woman involved in a standoff at the Rib Mountain Days Inn has been discharged from the hospital to the Marathon County Jail.
Thursday afternoon a press release Wausau Police Chief Ben Bliven said 35-year-old Katina Mulroy was taken to the Marathon County Jail following an officer-involved shooting on January 14th at the Days Inn in Rib Mountain. Charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and criminal trespassing have been recommended to the Marathon County District Attorney.
The Wausau Police Department along with Everest Metro Police Department is investigating the incident on behalf of the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. Police said Mulroy had stayed at the hotel, overstayed, and then showed a gun when hotel management asked her to leave.
On January 14th, deputies negotiated with Mulroy for six hours and then encountered her in the second-floor hallway, where they said she had a semi-automatic handgun. Mulroy did not comply when law enforcement told her to drop the gun and faced law enforcement with the gun in both hands.
The investigation showed law enforcement first fired a “less than lethal round” hitting Mulroy. Police said she then raised the gun, pointed it in the direction of law enforcement, and fired. Law enforcement then fired their weapons, hitting Mulroy multiple times.
According to the investigation, she retained possession of the firearm for about 7 minutes after being shot. She then received aid for her non-life-threatening injuries upon discarding the firearm.
Three members of the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department were identified in the investigation by Wausau Police. Those members are Patrol Lieutenant Mark Wagers with 27 years of law enforcement experience, Deputy Sheriff Kyle McMullen with 3 years of law enforcement experience, and Deputy Sheriff Nathan Olig, with 11 years of law enforcement experience.
All three were placed on paid administrative leave after the incident per department policy. The release states all law enforcement officers are fully cooperating with the investigation.
Mulroy is expected to appear for a probable cause hearing in Marathon County Circut Court on Friday, February 12th at 2 p.m.
