MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — A member of the Milwaukee Bucks front office has announced his intentions to run for one of Wisconsin’s US Senate seats in 2022.
Alex Lasry, the team’s Senior Vice President, will be stepping out of his office at Fiserv Forum and into the political ring next year to challenge for Ron Johnson’s seat.
In a statement Lasry said he’s running to help boost take-home pay for families and to start getting
“It’s time to elect leaders with a fresh perspective and a record of delivering real results for the people of Wisconsin,” Lasry continued. “I will bring a new way of thinking to the Senate and give Senator Tammy Baldwin a partner in Washington who will work for the people of this state, not for the special interests. That’s why I am running to be Wisconsin’s next Senator.”
Lasry will be running on the Democratic ticket. He joins Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson in the race.
It remains unclear if Johnson will be running for re-election. So far no Republicans have announced their intentions to run for the seat.
In addition to his role with the team, Lasry was also part of the group that helped Milwaukee land hosting rights for the 2020 Democratic National Convention, which was scaled back into a virtual event as the COVID-19 outbreak spread.
The 33-year-old is the sun of Bucks co-owner Mark Lasry and also served as an aid in the White House under the Barack Obama administration.
