WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A one-day jury trial has been scheduled for a Wausau man accused of killing his three-month-old son.
Court records show Ronnie Lofton Jr. will go to trial for homicide charges related to the case on March 30th. A jury status hearing in the case will be held ten days prior.
Lofton is accused of physically assaulting the boy while his mother was out grocery shopping. When she returned home, she said the boy was unresponsive in his pack and play.
They took the child to ER who sent him on to Marshfield Children’s, where later died.
Doctors said the child had numerous rib fractures that were in “various stages” of healing along with other indications of blunt-force trauma to the brain.
Other misdemeanor counts against Lofton include bail jumping and carrying a concealed knife.
The homicide charge alone carries a 60-year prison sentence.
