MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin’s seven-day average of new coronavirus cases increased for the second time in three days Wednesday.
The state Department of Health Services reported 747 confirmed cases, or 14.2% of the 5,264 tests done. The total of new cases was the second highest in the past 11 days, and it pushed the seven-day average up to 617, compared to Tuesday’s level of 604.
The seven-day average of COVID-19-related deaths went up, as well. With DHS reporting 25 new deaths on Wednesday, an average of 18 people in Wisconsin have died each day over the past week.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 561,311 confirmed cases and 6,342 deaths. DHS lists 546,508 people as having recovered from COVID-19.
The number of vaccines administered stood at 1,237,867 as of Wednesday. A total of 825,900 people in Wisconsin had received at least one dose, and 386,072 people had completed their two-dose series.
Among people 65 and older, 48.1% had received at least one dose and 14.2% both doses.
Wisconsin’s vaccine allocation from the federal government stood at more than 1.6 million doses. The state had ordered more than 1.2 million of those.
Overall hospitalizations rose slightly on Wednesday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 355 COVID-19 patients, up eight from Tuesday, but down 30 from a week earlier. Of those, 93 were in intensive care, one more than on Tuesday but 14 fewer than a week earlier.
Northeast region hospitals reported 37 COVID-19 patients, down one in a day but up five over a week. Twelve of those were in ICUs, two more than on Tuesday and one more than a week earlier. In the Fox Valley region, numbers were unchanged from Tuesday, with 17 total COVID-19 patients, two fewer than a week earlier, and one in ICU, which was one fewer than a week earlier.
