MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — As Wisconsin has surpassed half a million people being fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, state health officials are planning to provide an update on vaccination plans.
The briefing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon comes as the Department of Health Services reports 505,123 people, or 8.7% of the state’s population, has received both doses of vaccine. As of Tuesday, 928,958 people, or 16%, had received at least one dose. Among people 65 and older, 55.4% had received at least one dose and 23.7% had received both doses.
The weekly update shows Wisconsin’s total allocation has grown to 1,895,025 doses. Of those, 1,474,205 had been ordered, 207,100 were in transit and 1,466,654 had been administered.
Those numbers could increase in the coming week as a one-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson has been approved for emergency use. The state of Wisconsin expects to receive 47,000 doses of that vaccine next week. Merck & Co. has agreed to help Johnson & Johnson produce the vaccine in an effort to expand supply more quickly.
Meanwhile, virus activity in the state has leveled off after three and a half months of mostly declines. The seven-day average of new cases stood at 610 as of Monday, exactly where it was eight days earlier.
