Ayo Dosunmu returned to the lineup after missing three games and broke a late tie by scoring the final five points as No. 4 Illinois held off No. 7 Ohio State 73-68 at Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.
Dosunmu and Andre Curbelo each scored 19 points for Illinois (20-6, 16-4 Big Ten), which has won four consecutive games.
E.J. Liddell had 19 points for the Buckeyes (18-8, 12-8), while Duane Washington Jr. added 15. Ohio State has lost four consecutive games. A 3-pointer by Liddell gave the Buckeyes a 68-64 lead with 3:48 remaining.
A Dosunmu free throw and a 3-pointer by Da’Monte Williams made it 68-all with 1:33 remaining before Dosunmu made a basket and free throw after Justice Sueing fouled him with 44 seconds remaining. Dosunmu added two more free throws with 25 seconds remaining.
No. 17 Oklahoma State 85, No. 6 West Virginia 80
Avery Anderson III scored a career-high 31 points and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe added 18 to help the Cowboys close the regular season with a win against the Mountaineers in Morgantown, W. Va.
Oklahoma State (18-7, 11-7 Big 12) shot 57.9 percent compared to 41.7 percent for West Virginia, shining despite missing backcourt leaders Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele. Cunningham, the conference’s leading scorer and presumptive No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft in June, was held out as a precaution after spraining his left ankle late in Thursday’s loss at No. 3 Baylor.
West Virginia (18-8, 11-6 Big 12) missed a chance to clinch the No. 2 seed in next week’s conference tournament in Kansas City, Mo., unable to catch the Cowboys after trailing by five points with 12:20 remaining.
No. 8 Alabama 89, Georgia 79
The Crimson Tide’s strong second half after trailing by as many as 14 points in the first was the difference in their comeback win over the host Bulldogs.
Jahvon Quinerly scored all 18 of his points in the second half, and four other Alabama players scored in double figures, including 15 points and seven rebounds from John Petty Jr. Alabama (21-6, 16-2 in SEC) tied a school record for conference wins in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Sahvir Wheeler led Georgia (14-11, 7-11) with 18 points and 10 assists.
Providence 54, No. 10 Villanova 52
David Duke capped a 20-point performance with the game-winning tip-in with five seconds remaining in the second half to lift the host Friars over the Wildcats, who played their first game without injured senior point guard Collin Gillespie.
Nate Watson added 20 points and Noah Horchler had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Providence (13-12, 9-10 Big East).
Jermaine Samuels had 21 points to lead Villanova (16-5, 11-4), and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl added 11 points and 13 rebounds. Robinson-Earl’s 3-pointer bounced off the rim as time expired.
Notre Dame 83, No. 11 Florida State 73
Prentiss Hubb scored 22 points to help the Fighting Irish break a four-game losing streak with a wire-to-wire upset of the Seminoles in Atlantic Coast Conference play in South Bend, Ind.
Dane Goodwin added 15 points and nine rebounds as the Fighting Irish (10-14, 7-11 ACC) snapped a 28-game losing streak against ranked teams dating back to a win over Wichita State early in the 2017-18 season. Nikola Djogo, Nate Laszewski and Cormac Ryan had 11 points apiece for Notre Dame.
Scottie Barnes matched his season best of 17 points and collected a season-high nine rebounds for Florida State (15-5, 11-4), which lost for just the third time in the past 13 games. RaiQuan Gray added 15 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out, while M.J. Walker and Sardaar Calhoun tallied 12 points apiece.
No. 12 Arkansas 87, Texas A&M 80
Moses Moody and Jalen Tate combined for 50 points and the Razorbacks survived the Aggies’ upset bid for the victory in a Southeastern Conference game at Fayetteville, Ark.
Moody matched his career high with 28 points for a second consecutive outing, and third time this season, while Tate added 22 points after just scoring two in each of his two previous outings.
The Razorbacks (21-5, 13-4 SEC) closed out the game by outscoring the Aggies 11-2 over the last 56.5 seconds. Quenton Jackson and Emanuel Miller led the Aggies (8-9, 2-8) with 23 points each.
No. 14 Creighton 93, Butler 73
Marcus Zegarowski matched a career-high with 32 points on 10-of-12 shooting and paced a sharp offensive performance by the host Bluejays in a blowout victory over the Bulldogs in Big East play in Omaha.
The Bluejays (18-7, 14-6 Big East) played their first game without coach Greg McDermott, who was suspended by the school last Thursday following racially insensitive comments he made to his players last week. Creighton players wore black T-shirts during pregame warmups with the words “There is no way around racism” printed on the front.
The Bluejays put together one of their best halves of the season, scoring 46 points, which was the most allowed in a half by Butler (9-14, 8-12) this season. Chuck Harris led the Bulldogs with a season-high 29 points to become the first freshman to lead Butler in scoring during the regular season in 41 years.
No. 20 Loyola Chicago 65, Indiana State 49
Cameron Krutwig scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as the Ramblers cruised to a win over the Sycamores in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis.
Krutwig also added 11 rebounds and four assists for the top-seeded Ramblers (23-4), who will play Sunday for the tournament championship against Drake. Lucas Williamson scored 14 points, Keith Clemons had 12 and Aher Uguak added 10 in the win.
Jake LaRavia scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Sycamores, while Tyreke Key added 11 points. But it wasn’t enough to keep the Sycamores from probably ending their season with a 15-10 mark.
No. 21 Virginia 68, Louisville 58
Sam Hauser scored a season-high 24 points and the visiting Cavaliers clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title by defeating the Cardinals.
Virginia (17-6, 13-4 ACC) never trailed against Louisville (13-6, 8-5) and surged past Florida State to seize the No. 1 seed in next week’s ACC tournament in Greensboro, N.C. It is the fifth ACC regular-season championship in eight years for Virginia, including four outright titles (shared with North Carolina in 2018-19).
David Johnson led Louisville with 14 points and Jae’Lyn Withers had 12.
No. 23 Purdue 67, Indiana 58
Zach Edey scored 20 points and Jaden Ivey added 17, lifting the host Boilermakers over the Hoosiers in West Lafayette, Ind.
Purdue (18-8 overall, 13-6 Big Ten) won its fifth straight game overall and ninth consecutive contest against Indiana, dating back to the 2015-16 season.
Al Durham had 14 points to pace Indiana (12-14, 7-12), and Jerome Hunter and Trayce Jackson-Davis added 12 points apiece.
