ROSEMONT, IL (WSAU) — The Badgers know their path for both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments to be played in Indianapolis this week.
The Wisconsin women will play in the lone first-round game on Tuesday against Illinois with tip-off time at 4 CT. The winner of that game will then take on #5 Northwestern in the second round on Wednesday.
Should Wisconsin, the tournament’s #12 seed, survive those two games, a date with #4 Michigan would be scheduled for Thursday.
Maryland, Indiana, and Rutgers are the other three schools to receive double-byes into the quarterfinals.
Ohio State will not participate in the Women’s tournament after a self-imposed postseason ban for violations in its WBB program.
The complete MBB tournament bracket is not yet locked in, but Wisconsin does know they are the #6 seed for the tournament and will receive a first-round bye. The Badgers will take on the winner of an opening-round game between Nebraska and Penn State. on Thursday evening.
Should Wisconsin defeat either the Nittany Lions or Huskers, they’d take on Iowa in the quarterfinals on Friday.
In addition to the Hawkeyes; Michigan, Illinois, and Purdue also have double-byes into the round of eight.
The Women’s championship will be handed out on Saturday. The Men’s title game will be played in its traditional window as the final game before the Division I MBB selection committee announced the 68-team tournament bracket.
The Women’s selection show is Monday evening.
A limited number of fans will be allowed at all B1G tournament games in Indianapolis. The women’s games will be at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with the men at Lucas Oil Stadium.
All men’s tournament games will be heard on 95.1 The Game (national broadcast) with the Wisconsin games on WSAU (Wisconsin broadcast).
