SOUTH BEND, IN and ERIE, PA (WSAU) — The Minnesota Gophers built an early lead and held on to beat Wisconsin 6-4 to win the Big Ten Men’s Hockey Tournament on Tuesday Night.
The Gophers built a 5-1 lead heading into the 3rd period before the Badgers rallied to cut the deficit to one. They pulled goalie Robbie Beydoun in the final minute and Minnesota added an empty netter to secure the victory.
Beydoun replaced Cameron Rowe in net after the fifth Minnesota goal.
Roman Achan scored twice for Wisconsin. The other goals went to Mike Vorlicky and Cole Caufield.
The Badgers await their seeding in the NCAA Tournament which will come on Sunday.
The Wisconsin women’s hockey team will head to a 7th straight Frozen Four after shutting out Providence 3-0 on Tuesday.
Sophie Shirley had two goals for the Badgers and Brette Pettet had one.
Kennedy Blair needed only 12 saves for the shutout.
Wisconsin will face Ohio State in an NCAA semi-final on Thursday night.
