EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU) — Governor Tony Evers’ office has announced plans for a new mass-vaccination site in Eau Claire to open early next month.
According to a news release, the site will be located at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Zorn Arena and will be organized by FEMA’s Region 5 team with help from UW-EC’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students and the Eau Claire County Health Department.
The site will have the capacity to vaccinate up to 1,200 people every day and according to the Governor will receive up to 7,000 first-dose shots and at least 3,500 weekly doses based on supply.
“As Wisconsin continues to be a regional and national leader in using vaccine available, we’re grateful for FEMA’s support to help build our vaccination efforts on a larger scale to get more shots in arms quickly as we have vaccine available,” said Gov. Evers. “I appreciate the hard work of all of our partners coming together to get this second, high volume vaccination site up and running.”
Earlier this week a mass vaccination site opened at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field. Other sites are planned for Wausau, La Crosse, Racine, and a shared site between Barron and Douglas Counties.
The state’s first mass vaccination site opened in Rock County.
Zorn Arena has already been hosting COVID-19 testing with support from the University.
