INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WSAU) — A second-half run came up short for the Wisconsin Badgers against the top-seeded Baylor Bears in the second round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Sunday 76-63.
D’Mitrik Trice led the Badgers with 12 points in the contest. Nate Reuvers scored 11. Both Jonathan Davis and Micah Potter scored 10 points off the bench.
Both teams shot 45.5% in the game (25-55) and hit exactly eight three-point baskets. Baylor hit 18/23 at the free-throw line, while the Badgers went 5/7.
Baylor committed just four turnovers in the game compared to 13 for Wisconsin.
Bench scoring would be one of the difference-makers in the contest. The 20 combined points from Potter and Davis were the only contributions for Wisconsin outside the starting five, while Baylor would get 25 bench points.
Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell tied for the game-high with 16 points each for the Bears.
Wisconsin had trimmed the second-half deficit from as many as 18 points down to as few as seven, but never pulled closer than that.
Wisconsin was attempting to be the second team of the day to take out a top seed after Loyola-Chicago sent Illinois packing in the first game of the day.
The Badgers end the season with an 18-13 record. Baylor advances to the Sweet 16.
