MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — On the day the Wisconsin mask mandate was repealed by the State Supreme Court, Wisconsin saw a drop in COVID-19 cases.
The seven-day average of new coronavirus cases in Wisconsin fell on Wednesday as the state surpassed 30% of people having received at least one dose of vaccine.
The state Department of Health Services confirmed 563 new cases, or 3.2% of the 17,539 total tests done. The seven-day average of new cases fell to 470 from its Tuesday level of 501.
Ten more people died of complications of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. The seven-day average of deaths held steady at four.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 577,195 people in Wisconsin have tested positive and 6,622 have died. DHS considers 563,534 people to have recovered from COVID-19.
As of Wednesday, 2,813,475 doses of vaccine had been administered in Wisconsin. The number of people who had received at least one dose was 1,765,007, or 30.3% of the population. Those who had completed their vaccination course numbered 1,040,039, or 17.9% of the population.
Among people 65 and older, 75.3% had received at least one dose and 58.4% had been fully vaccinated.
