MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — New COVID-19 infections hit their highest rate in months on Tuesday, but the upswing comes as 1/3rd of all residents in the state have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 886 new positive tests on Tuesday, the highest total since Feb. 12. Tuesday’s positives represented 26.8% of the 3,308 total tests completed. The rolling seven-day average of new cases climbed to 634, the first time it has been above 600 since March 1.
Eight more deaths were connected to COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. The seven-day average of new deaths dropped to five.
Overall during the pandemic, there have been 581,070 confirmed cases and 6,648 deaths. DHS lists 566,646 people as having recovered from COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, one in three Wisconsin residents had received at least one dose of vaccine. There had been 3,120,369 doses administered, with 1,944,054 people (33.4% of the population) having received at least one dose and 1,185,478 people (20.4% of the population) having completed their vaccine series.
