ST. LOUIS, MO (WSAU) — The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 in the Cards home opener on Thursday afternoon.
The Brewers scored first on two errors in the 3rd inning. The Cardinals tied the game in 7th with a bases-loaded infield single in which the Brewers didn’t make a play that would have ended the inning.
Nolan Arenado then hit a 2 run homer off Drew Rasmussen in the 8th inning.
Milwaukee wasted another great start from Corbin Burnes who went six shutout innings, giving up just one hit with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Keston Huira did get off the schneid with his first hit of the season.
The two teams are off today before continuing their series Saturday afternoon.
Milwaukee also signed free agent Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor league contract. He’s a former National League batting champion who can play both infield and outfield and is a two-time All-Star. He was released last month by the Reds
