WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Stratford man who investigators say stabbed two brothers as they played video games in their home has reached a plea deal with the prosecution to avoid a jury trial, however, details of the plea deal were not announced during a hearing on Monday.
Brandon Noll appeared via virtual means on Monday where it was announced that prosecutors and his defense team have reached a deal but due to logistical issues arrangements to transport Noll from the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage to the Marathon County Courthouse in Wausau were not made.
Court officials have rescheduled a plea hearing in the case for May 25th at 3:45 PM. Noll’s defense team then requested that he be transported to Wausau at least one hour before that hearing to allow them time to speak with their client.
Charges against him include two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.
Authorities say Noll took a knife from the kitchen, then waited behind a wall in the basement while William Stone and Michael Stone were playing video games. He made a noise, which caused Michael to pause the game to check on him. Noll then stabbed him and William rushed to help, which is when Noll stabbed him as well.
Michael Stone was pronounced dead at the scene. William was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.
According to court documents Noll has admitted to the killings, saying he had wanted to know what it was like to take a life.
Following the stabbing incidents, Noll left the Stratford home in an SUV that belonged to Michael Stone. He led authorities on a chase through Marathon County in foggy conditions, ultimately ending up in Marshfield where he caused a crash, then continued through town. Police then found the SUV parked in the center of the road and discovered the Noll had taken another vehicle from a nearby business. They eventually caught up with him near West Veterans Parkway in Marshfield.
Since the May 2020 incident, Noll has been in custody at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage and Dodge Correctional Institute in Waupun.
Noll does face charges of hit-and-run in Wood County in connection with those incidents.
