WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Renee Caird, the Weston woman who was fatally stabbed in her apartment last week, is being remembered by friends and family.
“We were always there for each other, I could always count on my sister. These people are all here because my sister touched their hearts,” said Susan Gurno, the sister of the victim.
Caird’s family confirmed that she was the victim of the stabbing incident on April 23rd. She called 911 early that morning and was heard screaming from her apartment when police arrived. Police were confronted by an armed man inside the unit. He was shot and was hospitalized in critical condition.
Renee’s body was found inside.
The state Department of Justice is investigating Renee’s death and the officer-involved shooting.
But Gurno says that’s not how people will remember Renee. “There’s people here that are telling me stories of the things that Renee did for them. That was her life, was just loving and caring and wanting a smile on everyone’s face,” she told WAOW-TV.
She says Renee was always willing to be there for other people, even those she’d only just met. “She had the biggest heart. She would help anybody. If it was the shirt on her back, she would give it to you,” she said.
One of those people was Jennifer Kasper, a friend and coworker who worked at the R-Store with Renee. “She was a good friend. She helped me in times when I needed help, and she helped my children grow stronger and move forward,” she said.
Kasper says she’ll remember the little moments she shared with Renee. “She was always out there holding a cup of coffee waiting for us to come join her. We’d watch the sunrise or we’d watch it rain.”
Authorities have not confirmed the identities of anyone involved in the case or a motive. Additionally, there’s been no update on the condition of the man that officers shot.
