SOFIA (Reuters) – Bulgaria’s president will appoint his security and defence secretary as caretaker prime minister to lead government until a snap election is held in July, two sources familiar with the process said on Tuesday.
Stefan Yanev, 61, a close ally of President Rumen Radev, was deputy prime minister and defence minister in an interim government Radev appointed in 2017.
Assen Vassilev, 43, former interim economy minister in 2013, will be caretaker finance minister, the sources said.
Radev is expected later on Tuesday to call snap polls on July 11 and appoint a caretaker cabinet, after last month’s national election resulted in a fragmented parliament which failed to produce a government.
