WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A man accused of vehicular homicide by driving while intoxicated has reached a plea deal with the state by pleading no contest to the charge.
Heith Gureski was in a Marathon County courtroom on Wednesday where he entered the plea in exchange for prosecutors dropping additional charges of OWI and operating with a blood alcohol content above .15.
Charges in the case stem from a December 2020 car accident that killed 21-year-old Bryce Giles and left Gureski with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses said they say saw the two leaving a Weston establishment at a high rate of speed down County Road J. Police were later called to the intersection of County Road J and Roble Lane for a rollover crash, where they found Gureski injured and Giles dead.
A presentence investigation will be completed by June 25th. Gureski will then be sentenced on July 12th at 8:30 AM in Marathon County court. He remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
