MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The St. Louis Cardinals bookended Thursday’s matinee with the Milwaukee Brewers by scoring single runs in both the first and ninth innings for a 2-0 win.
Nolan Arenado singled home a run in the first to score Tommy Edman. That was followed by a throwing error committed by pitcher Angel Perdomo in the 9th that allowed Lane Thomas to score the insurance run.
The Brewers managed just five hits on the day led by two knocks from Luis Urias. Travis Shaw and Daniel Vogelbach each recorded a double as well.
Corbin Burns was tagged with the loss after throwing 5 innings and allowing five hits and one earned run. He did manage to strike out nine Cardinal batters on the day. Jack Flaherty picked up the win for St. Louis.
The loss drops Milwaukee to 20-18 on the season. They begin a three-game set against Atlanta Friday evening. The Saturday and Sunday games will see maximum capacity at American Family Field expanded to 50% for the first time this season.
The Brewers and Milwaukee health officials are working towards full capacity at the stadium by the end of June.
