WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — They aren’t blowing the doors completely open, but it’s still the closest to a normal library experience that patrons of the Marathon County Public Library will have had in months.
Library officials announced on Tuesday that beginning June 1st they will be opening their doors to 25% capacity, meaning a return to browsing and using the computers.
“Folks will be able to browse at any location starting June 1st without needing an appointment,” said Dan Richter, Library Specialist. “Just stop in during the times that we are open. They can also use the computers, print off things, it’s definitely a step closer to being back to normal.”
Library staff will continue regular sanitization and cleaning in all areas including shared surfaces like computers. Richter says they’ll also make cleaning supplies available for users if they’d like to clean before or after using a computer for their own peace of mind.
He also doesn’t see capacity limits being reached at the main Wausau branch very often because the building has multiple levels and more space than the others. He says for those that want to skip the wait curbside pickup will remain an option at all branches and drive-through pickup will still be utilized at the Wausau and Marathon City branches.
Richter adds that those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be required to wear a mask, but they also won’t be asking to see proof of vaccination.
There’s no timetable for when the 25% capacity limit will be increased. Richter says they are relying on guidance from the Marathon County Health Department for that.
