WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A local church will hold services as a separate location after a vandalism incident.
According to a Facebook post from the First Universalist Unitarian Church in downtown Wausau, the church was the victim of vandalism on Saturday May 15th. The post written by Reverend Brian Mason on Sunday afternoon gives some information about the incident.
He writes, “Late Saturday, May 15, an individual broke into the church and caused damage to several areas throughout the building that will require professional cleaning and repairs. At this point it appears that almost everything can be fixed.
“The main question is how long the process will take. Contact has already been made with all of the appropriate parties to ensure a timely and thorough restoration of the affected areas.
“Thankfully the Wausau Police Department was able to access the church’s security system, which captured much of the vandalism. The officers who secured the building and investigated the incident did a marvelous job. I am thankful for their dedication to our community,”.
All in-person events at the church have been suspended indefinitely. WSAU News reached out to Reverend Brian Mason for any updates on the church in response to the vandalism, but Reverend Mason declined to talk to media at this time.
