WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) There’s been an arrest in a church vandalism case in Wausau.
Adam Dupleasis, 38, was arrested a few hours after allegedly breaking into the First Universalist Unitarian Church on Saturday, May 15. There is video footage from a security camera that shows what happened.
A Wausau police report says Depleasis got into the church by throwing a brick through a pane of glass. He’s accused of using a fire extinguisher to damage the church organ. A chemical foam from the extinguisher was found in the sanctuary.
Dupleasis is charged with burglary, theft, criminal damage to a house of worship, battery to a law enforcement officer, and possession of methamphetamine. He is also charged with bail jumping from unrelated criminal charges that are pending against him.
He will appear in Marathon County Court on May 26.
A motive for the incident is not known.
The UU church will hold worship services at First United Methodist Church in Wausau at 11am for the next two Sundays while their sanctuary is repaired and cleaned. The cost of the damage is unknown.
