Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Lourdes Gurriel and Randal Grichuk each homered as the visiting Toronto Blue Jays ended their six-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
Guerrero has three home runs in the last two games. Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz (6-2) allowed one run on six hits, with a season-high 10 strikeouts, over 6 2/3 innings (112 pitches).
New York saw its six-game winning streak come to an end. Starting pitcher Corey Kluber (4-3) left after three innings due to tightness in his right shoulder. The right-hander will have an MRI on Wednesday. Kluber gave up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five.
Guerrero’s major-league-leading 16th homer came off Kluber, who was making his first start since tossing a no-hitter May 19 against the Texas Rangers. Kluber gave up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five. Kyle Higashioka had two hits and drove in a run for the Yankees.
Dodgers 9, Astros 2
Clayton Kershaw carried a shutout into the seventh inning and Justin Turner provided early support with a two-run home run as Los Angeles extended its winning streak to eight games with a win over host Houston.
Kershaw (7-3) went 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run and four hits with six strikeouts. He did not issue a walk in 81 pitches. The Dodgers have won his last four starts and 12 of their last 13 games overall.
Turner and Chris Taylor each had two hits and two RBIs for the Dodgers. Turner, Max Muncy and Gavin Lux each scored twice.
White Sox 8, Cardinals 3
Jose Abreu went 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs as Chicago White cruised to a win over visiting St. Louis.
Nick Madrigal and Yoan Moncada added one RBI apiece for Chicago. The White Sox have won back-to-back games and will go for a three-game series sweep on Wednesday.
Dylan Carlson and Max Moroff each drove in a run for St. Louis, which has dropped three straight to match its longest skid of the season.
Padres 7, Brewers 1
San Diego worked Corbin Burnes for a season-high three walks plus a hit batter and scored four runs on just two hits against the Brewers’ right-hander en route to a win at Milwaukee.
Padres starter Joe Musgrove and relievers Tim Hill, Craig Stammen and Emilio Pagan held the Brewers to one run on two hits as San Diego improved to 13-2 over its last 15 games. Musgrove didn’t allow a hit until Lorenzo Cain singled to center with two outs in the fifth.
Jurickson Profar went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for San Diego.
Mets 3, Rockies 1
Jacob deGrom struck out nine over five strong innings in his return from the injured list for New York, which received a tie-breaking two-run home run from Tomas Nido in the sixth inning of the win over visiting Colorado.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Mets, who won for just the fourth time in 11 games. The Rockies’ four-game winning streak was halted.
deGrom, who missed 15 days with a sore right side, allowed one run on three hits and walked none while throwing a dozen of his 63 pitches 100 mph or faster. Ryan McMahon homered off deGrom with one out in the second and Brendan Rodgers followed with a single before deGrom retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, eight by strikeout.
Braves 3, Red Sox 1
Right-hander Charlie Morton limited the powerful Boston bats to three hits in seven strong innings as visiting Atlanta extended its winning streak to four games.
Morton (3-2) allowed only one run, this one unearned, for the second straight game and picked up his first victory since April 26. Morton retired the final 13 batters he faced and improved his career record to 7-1 against Boston. Will Smith picked up his eighth save.
Pablo Sandoval had three hits for the Braves, and Marcell Ozuna, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies drove in their runs. The Red Sox scored their only run when Rafael Devers was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded. Boston starter Garrett Richards (4-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Reds 2, Nationals 1
Kyle Farmer and Eugenio Suarez hit solo homers off Max Scherzer to give visiting Cincinnati enough offense to edge Washington.
Tyler Mahle kept the Nationals at bay by throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, while striking out two and issuing one walk.
Josh Bell belted his sixth homer of the season for the Nationals, who had won four of their previous five games. Scherzer struck out nine and walked one while allowing five hits over seven innings.
Royals 2, Rays 1
Brad Keller outdueled Rich Hill as Kansas City defeated Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Rays, who fell one game short of matching the franchise record for consecutive wins set in 2004. It was the Royals’ fifth win in their last six games.
Keller (4-4) pitched a season-high seven innings and tied his season best with seven strikeouts. Hill (3-2) struck out a career-high 13 and did not walk a batter. His previous career high in strikeouts was 11. Carlos Santana hit the 250th home run of his career.
Indians 4, Tigers 1
Aaron Civale pitched eight-plus solid innings, Jordan Luplow hit a two-run home run, and visiting Cleveland downed struggling Detroit.
Civale (7-1) gave up one run on six hits and struck out six while holding the Tigers scoreless until the ninth. James Karinchak recorded his sixth save. Cesar Hernandez led off the game with a solo homer. Eddie Rosario added two hits and scored a run.
Tigers starter Tarik Skubal (1-7) gave up two runs on six hits and tied his career high with nine strikeouts in five innings. Jonathan Schoop knocked in the lone run for Detroit, which has lost four straight.
Cubs 4, Pirates 3
Joc Pederson smacked two home runs as visiting Chicago erased an early three-run deficit to beat Pittsburgh.
Anthony Rizzo’s RBI single in the fifth provided the winning margin for the Cubs, who have won two games in a row and four of five.
Ben Gamel was 2-for-2 with an RBI single, a double and a walk, and Jacob Stallings added an RBI single for the Pirates, who dropped their fourth straight.
Phillies 2, Marlins 0
Rhys Hoskins slugged a two-run homer off a 99 mph fastball, leading Philadelphia to a win at Miami.
Vince Velasquez (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings in his best start of the season. He allowed three hits and three walks and struck out five. Sam Coonrod, Jose Alvarado and Hector Neris, with Neris earning his eighth save of the season.
Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara (2-4) lost despite allowing only two runs on two hits in eight innings. He walked one and fanned four.
Twins 7, Orioles 4
Rob Refsnyder went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles and Jorge Polanco also went deep to lead the Minnesota past Baltimore in Minneapolis.
It was the third straight victory and fifth in the past six games for the Twins. Refsnyder, who made a nice diving catch in center field to end a potential Baltimore rally in the sixth, finished with two RBIs and three runs. Mitch Garver and Alex Kirilloff each added two doubles for the Twins. Baltimore’s DJ Stewart homered for the second straight game.
Jose Berrios (5-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven while improving to 6-0 in seven career starts against Baltimore. Taylor Rogers pitched 1 1/3 innings to notch his third save. Losing pitcher Dean Kremer (0-5) gave up five runs on six hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out five.
