MADISON, WI (WSAU) — As expected the University of Wisconsin has named Chris McIntosh as the new athletic director. He succeeds Barry Alvarez who is retiring and will leave the post on June 30th.
The 44 year old McIntosh has been the assistant AD at Wisconsin since July of 2017. Before that he served as director of business development within the department starting in 2014. He’s a Badger grad and was a four year starter on the football team as an offensive lineman.He was drafted in 1999 by Seattle and played in the NFL until 2004.
UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank called him a “natural leader who loves the Badgers and cares about our student-athletes. He is uniquely positioned to continue our proud traditions of success on and off the field.”
McIntosh said in a released statement, “Our responsibility is to develop young people, so they can be successful for the rest of their lives. While we have celebrated plenty of victories, winning is only one part of the development responsibility. Our mission is to set students up for success long after their playing careers are completed.”
