In honor of June Dairy Month, Vogel Family Farms in Cato will be hosting this year’s Manitowoc County Breakfast on the Farm Sunday, June 13th from 8 am to 12 pm.
One of the owners, Amanda Linsmeier spoke a little bit about the farm’s family history. The dairy was established in 1958 when her grandparents decided to start the farm and later moved it to where it is today because they chose to buy the location from their neighbors in 1969. The family milks about 600 cows and has four partners on the farm, Amanda, her father Marcus Vogel, his brother Guy Vogel, and his son Gabe.
Amanda grew up on the farm but left for a brief period while going to college and working on a jersey farm, but ultimately ended up back on the farm in 2009 and joined on an owner in 2013.
The family started planning for the breakfast in early winter and have slowly done more and more. “Our free time is focused on what we can get done to make it look perfect,” Amanda said. On Sunday, they’ll have wagon ride tours through the farm to see how the operation works, activities for the kids, ice cream, and of course, breakfast. Her main goal is to share with people how much work goes into a dairy farm. “Every cow means a lot to us and we try to keep them clean, happy, and healthy 365 days a year.”
Manitowoc County’s Breakfast on the Farm will be this Sunday, June 13th, at Vogel Family Farms in Cato from 8 am to 12 pm.
