As June Dairy Month continues in Wisconsin, Feltz Family Farms & Dairy Store in Stevens Point hosts the Portage County Dairy Drive-Thru Lunch on Saturday, June 19th from 10 am-1 pm.
Feltz Family Farms is a fifth-generation farm owned and operated by Ken and Jackie Feltz who purchased the dairy from Ken’s parents in 1995. Since then, the farm has introduced four robots that milk 240 cows, a dairy store, and started making their own cheese curds in May.
We spoke with Jake Feltz with the dairy store, who works alongside his brother and dad who handle the farm, and his mom, sister, and sister-in-law who help him take care of the store. He explained why he and his family wanted to host for the third time, “There are not many farms left so, anytime you can invite people out on-site and give them an up-close look, we try and keep our doors open all the time.”
One unique thing that Feltz’s Dairy Store has started in May is making their own cheese. “We started this mainly to save some cost, we haven’t really had our own product that we make. There is more opportunity and we are trying to expand without taking too much space on the farm,” Feltz said. With Jake and his brother being the sixth generation, he has to keep the farm growing and keep thinking for the next generation.
