MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — An attempt to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation in Lincoln County last Wednesday led to a traffic case and multiple stolen vehicles before a suspect was arrested near Worthington, Minnesota.
Officers say they attempted to pull the vehicle over near the intersection of County Road D and US 51. The driver took off, leading the officer on a short chase. That ended when the suspect crashed into a tree near Sunny Point Road and then fled on foot.
From there it’s believed that he stole a pickup from a home near the crash site, though the owner didn’t discover that the vehicle was missing until after a resident in the nearby Town of Russell reported they had a missing vehicle.
The pickup was found near that home with the keys still inside it. Officers then put out a be on the lookout for the second vehicle. It was found a few hours later in Adams County near where a third vehicle had been stolen.
Late Wednesday night officials in Nobles County, Minnesota found the missing Adams County vehicle along with the suspect from the original Lincoln County pursuit and arrested him.
The unidentified individual now faces multiple charges in all three counties.
Nobles County is located in Southwest Minnesota along Interstate 90- just east of Sioux Falls, SD.
