As June Dairy Month carries on, more counties in the area are hosting dairy events. For example, Back 40 Acres of Pulaski hosts the 37th Shawano County Brunch on the Farm this Sunday, June 27th from 8:30 am-12:30 pm.
The farm began back in 1968 with 40 cows and 100 acres by Herdsman, Kayla Coehoorn’s grandparents. Her mom and dad Wayne and Connie Nischke purchased the farm in 1992 and gained 20 more cows while continuing to grow on the crops side. Fast-forwarding 25 years and they’ve doubled their herd, added two milking robots, and built a new barn. The dairy is run by Wayne and Connie Nischke, their daughters Kayla and her husband David, and Ashley Mikle and her husband Ricky.
Kayla’s parents have thought about hosting for a few years and shortly after they built a new barn they signed up. They planned to do it last year, but that got pushed back due to the pandemic. “It is important for the public to come and see what we do and why we do it. We want people to know that we really take pride and take good care of the cows and the crops. We want them to see how comfortable and happy our cows are,” she explained.
