WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Hmong American Center in Wausau says some athletes and vendors scheduled to participate in this year’s Hmong Wausau Festival have been targeted by scammers.
In a statement released on Facebook late last week, Director Yee Leng Xiong said numerous participants have been contacted by a group claiming to be from the Center and asking for direct payments for fees associated with the festival.
Xiong said all associated fees and other payments for the festival are to be made directly to the Hmong American Center, INC and not to individuals.
Anyone who receives a call from someone claiming to be from the Hmong American Center and authorized to take payments is encouraged to hang up, and contact the Center directly for verification. They can be reached at 715-842-8390 or yeelengxiong@hmongamericancenter.org.
The Hmong Wausau Festival will be held July 31st and August 1st at the People’s Sports Complex in Wausau. The event was not held in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
