MADISON, WI (WRN) – The Wisconsin legislature is scheduled to vote on a state budget this week.
With an historic 4-point-4 billion dollar surplus to work with, the Republican majority on the the budget committee has included more than three billion dollars in tax cuts.
It includes elimination of the personal property tax for businesses, as well as income tax reductions. Republicans also put more aid to K-12 education into the budget, in order to secure about 2-point-3 billion in federal education funding.
If passed by the Assembly on Tuesday and the Senate Wednesday, the budget goes to Governor Tony Evers, who can use his extensive veto authority on portions of it, or veto it altogether.
