SHAWANO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A man is back in custody after disappearing after making bond in 2016 for child sex crimes.
Pedro Noriega-Avila, 38, was arrested in April at the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. This past week he was extradited back to Wisconsin, as reported by WBAY in Green Bay. Noriega-Avila was charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 13 and two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 16 back in 2016.
Noriega-Avila posted his $5,000 bond at the time and then disappeared. Police records show his assaults began in 2009 when the child was only 10 years old. He continued to assault that same child until 2015.
On Tuesday, a Shawano County Court judge set a new cash bond of $500,000 for Noriega-Avila. He will return to court on August 13th for a preliminary hearing on the charges. If convicted, Noriega-Avila could serve up to 60 years in prison for the 1st-degree sexual assault charge and 40 years for the 2nd-degree sexual assault charges.
