A mid-morning gully washer sent the Packers into the Don Hutson Center for the first time this training camp for a 75 minute sweat breaking workout in helmets and shorts.
Most of the session was devoted to drill work, special teams and a sprinkling of 11 on 11 snaps. There were some notable players who were held out of practice and did rehab work on the side including Aaron Jones. A team spokesman said he was working through a hamstring injury. Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark were with withheld dealing with groin pulls. Others not taking part were Za’Darius Smith, Will Redmond, Kevin King, Kingsley Keke, Kamal Martin, Randy Ramsey, Isaiah McDuffie and Chris Blair.
One player finally got on the practice field. Tight end Dominique Dafney was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list and took part in both individual and team drills.
Coaches broke down the video from Saturday’s Family Night practice. Head Coach Matt LaFleur was asked how Jordan Love fared. He took a lot of reps and he’s going to be taking nearly all of the snaps in the three pre-season games to come.
After practice, Mason Crosby held his first media session of camp.
A sixth round draft choice out of Colorado way back in 2007, Crosby has never missed a game in his career, 224 and counting. He’s the Pack’s all time leader in points, field goals and extra points. Crosby ranks 20th on the NFL’s all-time scoring list with 1682 points. Ironically, the next two kickers he’ll climb over this year are both former Packers in Ryan Longwell at number 19 with 1687 points and Jan Stenerud at 18 with 1699. It hasn’t all been seashells and balloons for the Lubbock, Texas native. There were a couple of bumpy seasons but he’s persevered. He’ll turn 37 next month but plans on swinging his right leg a while longer, even though he has some camp competition this summer. The Packers signed J.J. Molson last year as a covid emergency kicker and brought him back this summer. Mason doesn’t mind the company. While Aaron Rodgers will make franchise history by playing in a record 17th season this fall, Crosby will play in his 15th season. That will be a longevity record among all non-quarterbacks. Crosby talked about sharing kicks in camp and continuing his march through the Packer record books.
The Packers return to Ray Nitschke Field for an open practice at 10:10 AM Tuesday.
