MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Five men from Central Wisconsin have been in court in Dane County for attempted homicide.
Jerrod Worzella, Curtis Gadke, Luke Harmon, Riley Esselman, and Brandon Hermanson all had court appearances in Dane County Circut Court on Wednesday. All five men are facing a felony charge of attempted 1st-degree murder while Worzella is also facing a charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
The charges stem from a September 9th incident in Sun Prairie when police were called to the Foxdale Apartment complex for a report of a shooting. At the apartment, complex officers found a 19-year-old man who had been shot inside the apartment. The victim had a gunshot wound to his hand along with an eye injury, for which he was taken to a local hospital. Witnesses at the scene told police a man had used an AR-style rifle in the shooting.
An investigation into the incident lasted several months before the 5 men were charged in July. Worzella and Hermanson had initial appearances in Dane County on Wednesday where a $15,000 bond was set for both men. All 5 men are currently being held on a $15,000 cash bond. Harmon and Esselman were in court for preliminary hearings where the court bound both men over for trial. Gadke had a status conference that was rescheduled due to a lack of a public defender.
Worzella will return to court on August 25th for a preliminary hearing while Gadke will return to court on August 31st for a status conference. Further court dates have not yet been set for Harmon, Esselman, and Hermanson.
