EAGLE RIVER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – An Eagle River man has been sentenced to more than a year in prison as part of an investigation into the skimming of profits from video gambling machines.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Wisconsin says James Donker, 63, was sentenced Thursday to 14 months in federal prison.
He was also ordered to pay $25,000 for conspiracy to the defraud the Internal Revenue Service. Donker has already paid $540,000 to settle tax debts in the case.
He pleaded guilty in June.
Donker is the sixth defendant to be charged and convicted of tax crimes in the case. It was tied to a federal tax investigation into video gambling machine vendors and bar owners who skimmed the machine’s cash receipts and failed to pay federal and state taxes on the gambling revenues.
