PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers split a doubleheader Saturday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates.
The Pirates took game one, 14-4; the Brewers took the nightcap, 6-0.
Rookie Aaron Ashby worked five innings and scattered three hits in the Brewers win. He struck out four and walked one. Brad Boxberger, who worked an inning in relief, was the winning pitcher.
The Brewers got a long home run from Rowdy Tellez. His two-run blast put the game out of reach at 5-0.
In the first game the Brewers couldn’t hold an early 3-run lead. The Pirates took over with a 4-run rally in the 3rd inning and tallies 6 more runs in the 5th. Kevin Newman tied a major league record with four doubles. The Pirates broke an 8-game losing streak with the win.
The first-place Brewers widened their lead in the NL Central to 8-games over the Reds, who lost Saturday to the Phillies.
The series concludes with a 12:05pm CT game on Sunday.
