WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Woodchucks won their final game of the season on Saturday, but missed the Northwoods League playoffs.
The Woodchucks beat the Rafters, 4-2, in Wisconsin Rapids. The team finished the season with 44 wins, the most ever for the Woodchucks — breaking the old wins record of 43 games in 2012.
Woodchucks’ starter Nick Marshall turned in his strongest outing of the season, striking out seven and allowing only one run over six-plus innings. The Antigo native who started the 2020 season opener capped off his 2021 season with a win. Peyton Schofield got the final two outs in the 9th inning to get the save.
The Woodchucks missed the playoffs because Madison won their game on Saturday. Madison finished in first place in the second half of the season. The other team to make the playoffs, Fond du Lac, held the season-ending tie-breakers to make the post season.
The Woodchucks finished their 2021 campaign with a 44-28 record.
