STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Health and Human Services Officials in Portage County are telling residents to ignore a text message offering vaccine appointments.
The message tells the recipient that they are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at 817 Whiting Avenue, which is the Public Health office. The message then asks if the recipient would like to reply to finish scheduling the appointment.
Law enforcement has been notified about the messages and anyone who receives one is asked to delete it without replying. Any appointments made by responding will not be valid.
COVID-19 vaccines are free and in many locations no appointment is required to get one. Individuals should talk to their healthcare provider or pharmacist to schedule their appointment. You can also contact PCHHS directly at 715-345-5350 and option 8 to check for availability.
Walk-in appoints are available as well on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
