MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Deputies in Lincoln County once again reported multiple incidents involving speeders on US 51 going 90 MPH or faster in the last week.
A Wausau man was cited on Monday for going 116 MPH near County Road D. Saturday morning a Milwaukee man was clocked at 90 MPH in the same area, and also received a citation.
Later in the day, Saturday a New Jersey man was cited for going 91 MPH near Merrill, a second deputy had spotted the same man going more than 100 MPH a few minutes earlier but was unable to initiate a traffic stop.
Officers were also forced to manually direct traffic for more than 6 hours on Sunday after temporary stoplights at the 51/County Road Q intersection were hit by lightning, causing them to malfunction. Replacement parts had to be brought in from Chicago before the signs could be re-activated.
