BRASILIA (Reuters) – Brazilian Senate leader Rodrigo Pacheco has declined to hear President Jair Bolsonaro’s decree that limits social networks’ power to remove content, invalidating the measure, a source with knowledge of the situation said on Tuesday.
Last week, Bolsonaro signed a temporary measure, which required congressional approval to become law, changing internet regulations to combat “arbitrary removal” of accounts, profiles and content. The decree, the president’s office said, aimed to protect “freedom of speech,” but was met with widespread opposition.
