RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – As archery and crossbow season gets underway, the DNR is urging hunters to get their deer tested for CWD.
This year’s monitoring will complete a multi-year, statewide CWD sampling effort.
The DNR is trying to get a better picture of the health of deer herds in the Northeast portion of the state. Amanda Kamps is the DNR Wildlife Health Conservation Specialist. She says hunters can submit samples in a couple different ways. “Regardless of method a hunter chooses to use to submit a CWD sample, we are encouraging hunters to use our online Go Wild option to submit all of the data or the information that’s required for every sample. This online option as new last year. We made a couple changes so it is available to every hunter.”
While the DNR is most interested in samples from deer harvested in Northeastern Wisconsin, anyone can submit their deer for testing.
Results typically come back 10 to 14 days.
