MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers used the long ball to build a lead and this time did not let it get away. They broke a five game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the New York Mets on Friday night at American Family Field.
Kolton Wong led off the game with a homer for the Brewers. Willy Adames and Christian Yelich went back-to-back in the 3rd inning. It was the first homer for Adames since August 18 and the first for Yelich since August 21st. Yelich also tripled and walked in the game.
Eric Lauer struggled in the first inning throwing 39 pitches but was able to get out of a bases loaded jam allowing only one run. He ended up pitching well the rest of the game going 6 2/3 innings allowing just three hits with 9 strikeouts.
With the Cardinals sweeping a doubleheader from the Cubs on Friday, the Brewers magic number to clinch the division is 2.
The Brewers and Mets play again tonight…pre-game show at 5:35 on WSAU.
