A bill has made it through the House Agricultural Committee on a unanimous voice vote, called the Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse is the sponsor of that bill who says after the past two years, the fairs need some help.
“This is an effort to provide some relief to these fairs so they can continue to go, and they can continue to provide that really important link that we have to continue to help educate people as to the importance of our agricultural industry,” Newhouse said.
He explained that local county fairs serve everyone in the community, whether you have a close tie to agriculture or not. “It’s one of those things that, like I said, it’s not only an educational opportunity, but it’s something that people really look forward to every year and it’s an important part of community life,” he said.
Newhouse is hopeful that the bill will continue to get full support as it goes through all of the steps to become a final bill.
