MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team is off to an 0-2 start after a 5-1 loss to Michigan Tech on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
Dominick Mersch scored the lone goal in the game for Wisconsin in the 3rd period after the Huskies had already built up a 5-0 advantage.
Wisconsin used three different goaltenders in the game with Jared Moe starting and getting the loss in net. He allowed 4 of the five Tech goals. Cameron Rowe allowed the other goal in 35 minutes of work.
Wisconsin also called on Ben Garrity to close out the game- giving him the first ice time of his Badger career.
The Badgers will host Army West Point for two games beginning on Thursday. We will have coverage of that game on WSAU if the NLDS between the Brewers and the Braves does not go five games.
The Badger women’s hockey team opened WCHA play on Saturday with a 6-0 win over St. Cloud State. Daryl Watts and Sophie Shirley both recorded two goals in the win.
Kennedy Blair recorded the shutout in net with 19 saves.
The same two teams will conclude their two-game set this afternoon in Madison.
